Do it for yourself – Darian Rodriguez Mendoza

I asked Darian and Mayra, her mother, what a day in their life looks like. What I love about these interviews is that they are not that dissimilar to a lot of people I know in Australia! #globalvillage

Mexico has been in the media of late, most recently the devastating earthquake.  Mexico seems such a dynamic, diverse and industrious country to me. Full of colour and creativity, I wanted to hear about it from those that live there. I reached out to this power mother and daughter team in Monterrey (not affected by earthquake).

They also happen to follow what DBFLG is doing from across the Pacific. Mexico is on my bucketlist. I hope it is also on yours.

I am Darian Sairel Rodriguez Mendoza and I live in Monterrey, Mexico with my mom

What do you like about living in Mexico? The culture and how everyone is nice and everything just fits perfectly for Mexico to be a nice place and obviously the food.

What is your favourite place in your town to go? Sfera Hall

How many languages do you speak? three: Spanish, English and French

Have you travelled outside of Mexico? Yes, Dallas is my favorite because literally I always go is Laredo

What does a typical day in your life look like from when you wake up to when you go to sleep?

I wake up at 6am to shower and put on my school uniform then I leave my house at 6:25 pick up a friend that leaves near my house my mom leaves us at school up to 2:50 then my friend’s mom pick us up and she drops me at my house then, I eat, do homework, get a little rest because at 4:30 I have to leave again my house to go and train at CARE (name of the place where I train) and I train athletics. I train from 5 – 7:30 and then I finally get to my house shower have dinner and sleep.

I am in 9th grade and my favourite subjects are Chemistry and Advanced English

Are they the ones you are naturally good at? I’m better at English, that subject comes naturally to me.

How do you feel when you are doing what you love? Amazing and full of happiness

Have you thought about what you want to do when you finish school?  Yes, I want to have my own business or become a famous model/designer and to win the olympics.

(Jane’s note: this reminds me of a movie I watched recently starring Hugh Jackman about Eddie the Eagle, a British skier who in 1988 became the first competitor since 1929 to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping – anything is possible)

Does what you want to be, include what you love doing?

Yes of course!!!

What do you think is needed for anyone to succeed at what they love doing?

To do it for yourself if you enjoy doing it and don’t get frustrated, everything has its time.

If you can dream it you can do it - Walt Disney

In a few years time you will enter into the wonderful wide world of creating your own path. What scares you about doing so?

Having my own house and just thinking about all the maintenance of the house that I have to pay for and also what really worries me is to get a really good job.

What excites you about doing so? The idea of having my own family and a person that will spend the rest of his life by my side💗
