Being an individual – Libby Kirby 15
Libby Kirby loves all things music and kindy kids.
I have been involved with governance in education for nearly 10 years and I think this sounds like a pretty interesting combination – so many opportunities and avenues for her creativity!
Music is just a part of me and I have no idea what kind of person I would be without it.
Where there is desire there is gonna be a flame, where there is a flame someone’s bound to get burned. But just because it burns doesn’t mean you’re gonna die. You’ve gotta get up and try. - PINK
What subjects do you do at school and which are your favourites?
Electives: Music and Business and Enterprise. Compulsory: Maths, English, Health and Physical Education, Personal Development, Religion, Science, Social Science. My favourites are Music and Business.
You are in your senior years at school, have you thought about what you love doing?
I love music and little kids. Music is just a part of me and I have no idea what kind of person I would be without it. I just like little kids, when I tell them something amazing they just look at me like I’m a genius and they are just crazy little energetic bundles of fun.
Are you considering a career that incorporates doing what you love?
Yes. I would like to have a job in the music industry like playing instruments, singing, making music, producing music, teaching music, that kind of stuff. I am also thinking about being a kindergarten teacher possibly.
What do you think is needed for anyone to succeed at what they love doing?
I think persistence and determination are needed to succeed.
You were one of the first to do the interior design workshop. Did you have any expectations?
I just expected it to be fun
What were one or two things you took away from the experience?
One thing I took away was how to make my room mine.
Have you made changes to your room?
Yes, I moved everything around and moved a couch into my room and stuck cork panels on one wall. Mum and Dad both helped me move my room and my friend also helped me with the cork wall.
Do you engage with your room differently than you did before?
Yes, I use the wall to keep myself organised and to be able to pin up photos and cards. Friends sleep on the couch when we have sleepovers. And by moving my room around, I now have a few places that are more out-of-the-way for my school bags.
Why do you think you went home and made changes to your room?
Because it was a great way to make my room mine, and to make it better to live in.
You are about to enter into the wonderful wide world of creating your own path.
What scares you about doing so?
Probably having to do things on my own.
What excites you about doing so?
Being able to be an individual and make my own choices.
What is one of your favourite inspirational quotes?
I found these two quotes on the internet and I made them into one:
“Work till your idols become your rivals and your signature becomes your autograph.”
The [first] section was said my DRAKE and I’m not sure about the other part.
“She stood in the storm and when the wind did not blow her away, she adjusted her sails” - ELIZABETH EDWARDS
